Centric Festival - Concert I
Dates & Times:
Friday, June 20th at 8pm
Concert I | Music of the Imagination
Daydreaming, Mathematics, Lewis Carrol's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."
The first concert of the Centric Festival features music inspired by mathematics, Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and daydreaming. Lethbridge's own Jaimee Jarvie will sing brand new songs by Jesse Plessis - settings of poetry by Montreal native John Black, who now resides in Lethbridge - alongside Claude Debussy's delicate masterpieces Chansons de Bilitis and the world premiere of a new musical setting of Lewis Carrol's Jabberwocky. Jesse Plessis will play a handful of modern master György Ligeti's notoriously complex Études.
Acclaimed Mexican pianist Luis Ramirez will be featured in the second half with Prokofiev's virtuosic Toccata and a performance on two pianos of Igor Stravinsky's balletic masterpiece The Rite of Spring.
