As April has now come to a close, we’d like to take a moment and reflect on last month’s brightest moments!
April brought the significant expansion of the Clean Sweep Program (CSP), a joint initiative between the City and the BRZ that provides individuals experiencing homelessness with the opportunity to participate in employment-related activities. This initiative aims to improve the cleanliness and safety of the downtown area through services such as cleaning up garbage, needle collection, clearing alleyway debris, and shoveling snow. This expansion included the addition of two full-time foremen and extending the program’s operations to seven days a week. This expansion also opened the door for the CSP to service select hot spots outside the downtown area, providing the larger Lethbridge community with a cleaner and safer environment.
April additionally welcomed two members of the BRZ community to their new locations as Poppin Tags and The Owl have moved to 327 5th St South and 606 3rd Ave S, respectively. Make sure to visit them at their new locations and support your local shops!
The 3rd Ave Project continued to progress throughout April as it builds towards creating a more vibrant downtown and a safe environment for all to live, work, learn, and shop. As one of the oldest streets in Lethbridge, this project aims to provide upgrades in the street’s infrastructure and utility while also enhancing the aesthetics of 3rd Ave. Last month, the City enhanced the construction fencing by decorating it with local artwork created by students in Lethbridge. Make sure to visit downtown and walk on 3rd Ave S to admire the wonderful local art being displayed!
April also saw multiple businesses in the downtown area receive BRZ umbrellas for use on their patios. A total of twenty-six umbrellas have been distributed so far, with twelve more on the way.
